BEATIFICATION OF MARIE-VIRGINIE VASLIN
“Sister and Servant”

Canonical introduction of the cause Decree

On August, 23rd 2009 sister Colette Leconte, postulant appointed by sister Anne-Joseph Le Bellec, general superior of the Franciscan Sisters Servants of Marie presented to me a request to set about the cause of beatification of Mother Marie Sainte-Claire, in the century Marie-Virginie Vaslin, founder of their institute, dead in odour of sanctity on October, 10th 1873 in Blois.
It is with trust that I granted this request, convinced by its solid foundation and the absence of obstacle to the cause, according to the Nihil Obstat of the Saint-Siège (prot. N. 2859-2/13). My brothers in the episcopate of the ecclesiastic province of Tours, who were meeting in session on June, 18th 2012, put forward their approval regarding this opportunity.
Thus, I have decided to open the Diocesan Inquiry in recognition of the deeds and virtues of the God’s Servant, Mother Marie Sainte-Claire.
My pastoral occupations don’t allow me to conduct this Inquiry myself, thus I appoint as judge responsible for the cause Father Marc Charrondière. He will be assisted by the promoter of justice, his Lordship Didier Boulay, and Mr Jean-Pierre Lejard as notary.
Written in Blois, in the Bishopric, on May, 31st 2013
+ His Lordship Maurice de Germiny, Bishop of Blois
By pastoral, priest Jean-Marie Lecoq, Chancellor

OPENING OF THE CAUSE

His Lordship de Germiny has officially opened the diocesan Inquiry during a ceremony which happened to the Bishopric on last June, 7th, in presence of Sister Colette Leconte, Franciscan nun, postulant to the cause. The diocesan Inquiry is the first stage of the beatification process. It prepares the file for the acknowledgement by Rome of the « heroic virtues » of Marie-Virginie Vaslin. This means that the Church checks that the person has remarkably lived the faith and the charity in the context of their time. Several people work on this Inquiry : the postulant Sister Colette Leconte, the three members of the historical Commission (his Lordship Verrier, Mrs Notter, Mr Loisel), the judge delegate to the cause (Father Charrondière), the promoter of justice (his Lordship Boulay), and the notary (Mr Lejard). One or several Expert Doctors, depending on the needs, will join them when the healings supposed to be miraculous owed to Marie-Virginie will be judged. It is at the end of the Inquiry that the Bishop will decide if it is necessary to send the file to the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints in Rome.
